Jesus Christ died for you. The Bible tells us that “God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son.” Even if you were the only person on the planet, God would still send his Son, Jesus to die for you. That same verse continues, “whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

As imperfect people we don’t deserve eternal life with our perfect God. In fact, as a result of our sinfulness, we only deserve eternal death apart from Him.  But we know that the love of God, shown to us through Jesus isn’t something we are able to earn. It’s a gift, a free gift from God. Paul, an author of many of the books in the Bible has written, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9).
