DYRM?
What,
after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to
believe—as the Lord has assigned to each his task. I planted the seed, Apollos
watered it, but God made it grow. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is
anything, but only God, who makes things grow.
1 Cor. 3:5-7
With
a desire that we live and move as one Body, I thought I might take a moment with
this newsletter article to make sure that everyone is “in the know” about some
of the staffing transitions that are taking place here at Christ the King during
the next few months. I hope you find this helpful and informative. Please feel
free to ask if you have questions about the positions that are not answered
here.
First, as I believe you
will read later, there is a transition happening in our Counseling Ministry.
Shari Lindquist, our current counselor, who has helped many families over the
past four years both here at CTK and in our community, is moving to Tallahassee
this summer. We will miss her greatly! At the same time, we have reason to
rejoice, as God has led two highly gifted therapists, Roma Schiefer and Russ
Porter, to join our counseling ministry on a part-time basis. They will begin
scheduling office hours in the next few weeks, and will be introduced to the
congregation in our worship services on June 1st. For those who
aren’t aware, the counselors are funded by their client fees. CTK provides a
client fund which assists those who present demonstrated need. Over the next
few months, I hope that you will notice Roma and Russ’ presence, as we seek to
initiate some new groups to our congregational life aimed at helping individuals
be more emotionally and physically fit.
The second staffing
change will occur as we say farewell to our beloved Vicar Ted at the end of
July, and prepare to welcome our new Director of Youth & Recreational
Ministries. The DYRM is a called position, and will replace some of the
functions that Pete LeBorious so aptly filled for us in caring for our youth and
children’s ministry programs. Additionally, however, we are adding a new
dimension to this position, as Pastor Nate cares for the Adult Education (now
called Discipleship) area which was a part of Pete’s responsibility. The new
program, which the new staff member will help us develop and implement, is being
called Recreational Ministries. This program will augment our current
ministries and outreach by allowing our members and the surrounding community to
learn to know and share the love of Christ as they are equipped and stimulated
physically, emotionally and spiritually. These programs should include
opportunities for growth on and off our campus, including, but not limited to
retreats for various ages, and a summer camp / after school program that would
complement our existing preschool ministry. By offering this type of program,
we would hope to help make our preschool outreach even more successful and
financially viable. The call committee is currently considering profiles of
those who have been nominated, and would hope to be ready to interview and then
come to the congregation with a recommendation in the next few weeks.
Please
pray for the transitions ahead of us, and ask God how you might be involved in
helping support and encourage these new servants in their work among us!
Pastor Mike
